The causes of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation aren't always known. They can be similar to causes of chronic atrial fibrillation, although most people with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation have normal hearts. Sick sinus syndrome is often found in people with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Since Sick sinus syndrome is generally caused by Ischemic heart disease, there can be an association with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. It is possible that in your case paroxysmal atrial fibrillation coexists with Ischemic heart disease. Otherwise, 99% of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation occurs in normal heart.

Atrial arrhythmias (atrial ectopic beats, atrial fibrillation [AF], and, less commonly, atrial flutter) occur in about 10% of MI patients and may reflect LV failure or right atrial infarction.

While the two conditions can be present at the same time they are not usually related unless significant damage has been done to a specific area of the heart that is involved in the transmission of electrical signals within heart tissue. Many people live completely normal lives with a slight degree of atrial fibrillation and are without symptoms. Some are noticeable but do not cause any problem. Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, as the name implies, is ordinarily intermittent but recurring. It is a matter of degree. If it is severe enough it requires treatment. Ischemic heart disease involves damage to heart muscle due to narrowed or blocked arteries in the heart. If the area involved is the SA node then the two problems can be related
