don't know maybe it's because..

because they eat healthy they dont eat all of the fatty and life threatning foods. a big reason is because they dont eat meat. meat such as beef, pork, chicken, etc is sure to give you cancer, heart attacks, and death. they are careful on what they put into their bodies and this is why they tend to live longer.

Maybe because they got lucky and heart disease, cancer etc. doesn't run in their families.

Heart disease: Meat is high in cholesterol and saturated fat, so fatty substances (“plaques”) build up inside the walls of arteries. This makes it much harder for blood to flow to the heart. Also, high cholesterol levels contribute to heart disease and vegetarian diets are usually low in cholesterol. http://goveg.com/heartdisease.asp Cancer: Some researchers believe that animal protein causes cancer. "Dr. T. Colin Campbell, arguably the foremost epidemiological researcher alive today, argues that animal proteins are the prime carcinogen in meat and dairy products. Says Dr. Campbell, '[H]uman studies also support this carcinogenic effect of animal protein, even at usual levels of consumption. … No chemical carcinogen is nearly so important in causing human cancer as animal protein.'" http://goveg.com/cancer.asp

Our food industry gives our livestock a lot of hormones and antibiotics, and eating excessive amounts of meat (more than 4oz. a day) and dairy has been associated with heart disease and diabetes as much as 40 years ago. Vegetarians do not expose themselves to growth hormones and antibiotics given to our cattle and livestock, and are more likely to be concerned about the food they eat so are more likely to eat organic and avoid pesticides from plants as well.

.Nobody knows what causes most cancers, and there's no evidence that any foods or diets cause or prevent cancer. It's sort of received wisdom that vegetarians are less likely to have cancer, but I've yet to see the results of any peer-reviewed studies that indicate that this is the case. I'm vegan and I've had cancer. Through support networks I've met three other vegans with cancer - one of them a lifelong vegan - and dozens of vegetarians with cancer. The reason most of those who get cancer are meat-eaters is that most people are meat-eaters. What doctors are prepared to say is that a diet HIGH in meat MAY contribute to colon cancer.

Vegetarians will be less likely to have heart disease because the consumption of fats from protein will clog their heart valves and give the person a higher cholesterol. Vegetarians are less prone to obesity, too, a precluding factor of heart disease. There are also a myriad of other reasons, too, but these are the most obvious of them. Regarding cancer and vegetarianism, there are less hormones in the vegetarian diet leading to less exposure (i.e, fewer instances of breast cancer, prostate cancer). Grilled meats also have nitrates and have been predicted to cause cancer. Hope this was helpful!

Because they aren't clogging the arteries with fat,or absorbing the chemicals contained in process meat to delay aging.
9 :
Is it because they are more likely to die from some form of malnourishment? Research into the benefits of a vegetarian diet are continuing, and any published papers should be regarded with skepticism and not taken as gospel.

meat is bad for your heart!

No, it is not 'sure to give you cancer, heart attacks and death." The majority of meat eaters are not conscious of the sort of meat they are eating, so they eat more processed kinds of meat. I am not a vegetarian but am very healthy because i eat the right sorts of fish, chicken and meat products in conjunction with a good lifestyle.

welcome to 2008. everything causes cancer these days. tomorrow, they'll probably tell us to stop brushing our teeth becuase bad breath helps defend against cancer. it's getting a bit ridiculous in my opinion. these studies need to be taken with a grain of salt. heart disease is genetic. you're born with it. cutting meat out of your diet won't get rid of it. the reason vegetarians are typically healthier is becuase they are more conscious about what they're eating. but if you compare a meat eater and vegetarian with well-balanced diets and regular exercise, you will see that neither is healthier than the other.

Remember, it's less likely, not unlikely. lo-mcg's case shows that vegans can and do get cancer, but there are many factors, such as environmental pollutants and a family history of heart disease and/or cancer that can hit even the healthiest eater. Animal foods have cholesterol and saturated fat, while plant foods have no cholesterol, and those that have saturated fat have less than animal foods. Animal foods also have no fiber, while plant foods tend to be sources of fiber. Fiber can at least reduce digestive cancers and has other beneficial properties. Veg*ans tend to eat more fruits and vegetables, which have antioxidants. Those also have protective properties. Some herbs and spices, pound for pound, have even more antioxidants, and nuts are also thought to be rich in antioxidants. All this makes it less likely that veg*ans will wind up with heart disease/cancer, but that doesn't mean a whole lot if you're the one with cancer.

Heart disease is caused by the clogging of the arteries near the heart with that of fat and cholesterol from animal products. Another of the many proofs that humans are not designed for eating such things -- as this does not happen in meat eaters. Cancer? Well, cancer develops in your body. You cannot 'catch' cancer, it develops slowly over time. Vegetarians tend to not eat animal products, tend to not smoke, tend to not drink, tend to be interested in general overall health etc. So, of course this will lead to an overall healthier body which will have a lesser chance of developing cancer. But, of course, there is also air pollution, ground and water pollution, radiation... who knows what all over the place that contributes to ill health that leads to cancer developing. But at least you won't be knowingly and directly doing it to yourself such as smokers do
