He should be getting medical advice from his doctor. He needs to have this problem addressed and treated.

Yes, it would help breath if you can fall asleep on your back, but your body will unconsciously roll and change position while you sleep. And it is most likely not while he is sleeping that he has problems, but while standing up, or rising to a stand from a seated position. My father had a very slow heart rate and he wasn't getting sufficient oxygen pumping through his system. He also would keel over from lack of oxygen. (Even fell off the roof one time!) He was finally implanted with a pacemaker to increase his heart rate and didn't have any more problems for five years before he had a myocardial infarct at age 81. If your dad hasn't seen a doctor yet about the fainting, do encourage him to do so very soon. He is flirting with stroke and heart attack. He may be on a Beta Blocker that slows down the heart rate. There are other bp meds that do not have that effect. It may be that with surgical intervention he could live with this for another twenty years. Additionally, he should NOT be driving until his condition changes. Babe

Hi Dmorgan9.., You must be loved by your dad. You are so caring and supportive of your dad. When we get old we will get this type of disorders. There could be many reasons for his disorder. Some of them are 1. Heart failure 2. Anaemia 3. Arterial disease 4. Lung diseases 5. Brain tumours etc. The best thing is for your dad to see a doctor. You can assist him by saying, Dad can we see your doctor together. Finally, please consider learning CPR if something should happen to your beloved dad and he loses consciousness. Good luck.

I am a heart patient also. I've had four heart attacks now, had six bypasses and have three stints put in, been given about six years if everything goes O.K. in the first place if he's a heart patient, does he take blood pressure pills, they may be to strong for him. I take Tenorman, I have to cut them in half at the doctors orders, I get light headed and see double otherwise. He should be taking one aspirin a day. Did he have his heart checked lately, like within the last few weeks ? what other meds is he on and what type of heart problem does he have ? Check his meds and call the doctor.

Get him to a doctor soon. He may be developing occlusion of the main artery in his neck. This can lead to stroke and other embolisms. Need to know about meds before any advice but he should be seen by a doctor soon. He's got a good 20 years in him yet, don't lose out
