stem cells are precursor cells, meaning they are not any type of cell yet, but have the potential to become ANY cell in the body. therefore because a person suffering from type 1 diabetes can't make insulin, stem cell therapy can be used to create Beta cells in the Islets of Langerhaan (in the pancreas) which could then produce insulin for the sufferer. heart attack - could be used to create new heart muscle tissue. parkinsons - could be used to create brain cells. (degenerative brain disease). i hope this helps! =]
