Obese or overweight people are more prone to heart ailments. It would be advisable that they visit their doctors regularly in order to monitor their hearts. Constant check ups can help because heart ailment can be avoided or at least be detected and treated before it becomes serious. However, it is also advisable that overweight people should watch their diet, exercise regularly and have the perseverance and will to do so.

I think that obese people should take care of their diet before it becomes a life and death situation.

Only if they have heart disease to begin with. Obesity is only one of many risk factors that contribute to the disease. It shouldn't be the only thing considered in a person's treatment - and no one should be treated for a disease they don't have. Now, if you meant to ask if they should be *checked* for heart disease, then again, their obesity is only one factor. It is not *the* cause of it. There are many obese men and women who haven't got a trace of heart disease, simply because no other risk factors are involved, and it shouldn't be assumed that someone must be checked for it simply because he or she is obese. A person who is obese, but has no other factors that would contribute to heart disease, should have no more testing for it than anyone else.
