Heart disease is a group of diseases pertaining to heart attack, coronary arteries, heart muscle disease, heart failure, blood vessels (hardened arteries), inflammatory heart disease, valvular heart disease, high blood pressure, disturbed heart rhythm and congenital heart defects. Heart attack- Cardiac muscle will die due to the blockage of coronary arteries. Coronary artery- A diet rich in saturated fat may cause atherosclerosis and this may result in heart attack. Heart muscle disease- Primary cardiomyopathy has no specific causes, unlike secondary cardiomyopathy which may be caused by hypertension, heart valve disease, artery diseases or congenital heart defects. Heart failure- Inability of heart muscle to pump sufficient blood as demanded by the body tissues. Inflammatory heart disease- Inflammation if the heart due to viral, bacterial infections. Valvular heart disease-Rheumatic fever is the main cause. In old age, the valve wears and become thicker. High blood pressure- The heart becomes enlarged and hypertrophied. Arrhythmia (disturbed heart rhythm) -This may cause heart attack, stroke or acute renal failure. Congenital heart defect- If the heart defect is not surgically treated it may cause heart palpitations, shortness of breadth, stunted growth, heart failure or heart attack
