i am a medical student and i come from an area known to be the home of CHD and both my grandfather & uncle have died of heart problems that i do not know about but my father died of a CHD .I want to know if i have somehow inhereted this or not.Thanks.

most likely yes since it is hereditary. talk to your doctor asap, he will know much more

Visit you doctor and have him run some test thats the only way you will know for sure

the simplest thing to do is check things out at the cardiologist. it may be inherited genetically (like breast cancer in my family --my mom died of it too), but try to take notice of things that may cause this. did they smoke? were they obese? etc.

You have a family history of CHD and heart problems. That there increases your risk of a heart attack and CHD. I don't wish to scare you, but you are more likely to have inherited this trait than say a person whose family did not have a history of CHD. Eat healthy. Exercise. Stay away from fatty foods. Get blood drawn regularly to keep tabs on your LDL/HDL cholesterol, triglycerides and the like. Monitor your blood pressure. I would think a medical student would know this basic information. Are you a first year?

Go to your Dr and mention your concerns. I also have a history of heart disease in my family . He started out asking questions about my smoking , weight and other things. then he gave me a stress test and an EKG . As a precaution I also had an angiogram done. My sister had 4 major blockages but I had 2 minor ones which put my mind at ease.But I am taking cholesterol drugs and taking aspirin therapy and exercising and eating better. Get to the Dr instead of asking on here. It will make you feel better. Good Luck........................................................KB

please be very careful in the study of your heart. i had two bypasses in the past 8 years. since your family has a history of heart trouble you need to understand what kind of heart trouble your family has. please don't give up
