...? I see a lot of feminists and anti-feminists (including me, at times) wasting time on this forum discussing relatively pointless subjects. I'm of the opinion that the most important 2 things that feminists in the west can spend time/energy on are increasing self-knowledge and self-esteem. Horrible condescension, I know. Enlighten me to some other fruitful ways for feminists in the west to spend time and energy.

One of them here does good and dangerous work in the third world. Not sure about the rest. Emily, looking at todays posts they are doing anything but that. One form of bigotry is much the same as another, just because it is deemed PC doesnt make it ok.

They could concentrate on helping children. Instead of bashing one gender over child abuse, domestic violence, they could actually tell the truth 100% of the time and help everyone. Im not going to hold my breath though.

They can teach their children not to be bigots, condescending, prejudiced or biased. They can teach their children to respect others, regardless of sex, religion or colour. They can stand up against unfairness, they can expose bigotry. there's a lot that feminists can do today. And I'm off to work, to help the aged and ill.

Feminism is a state of mind, not a state of being or doing. I suggest you not do anything *as a feminist.* Just be a good person and do good stuff. That you are feminist is for you, not them. It is an individual thing, not a dogma. If you are speaking specifically of advancing a feminist cause, then I suggest taking a Taoist approach to life. The feminism will follow as a byproduct and will become part of the ideology of the world your actions help to create.

I would say the best thing they can do is spend time fixing the damage feminism has caused. They could open their eyes and so that there movement is not generating equality and has not for 40 years or so. They really need to examine their movement from the top down if they do that then they can fix what has gone wrong. Telling the radicals at N.O.W. to shut up would be a good start for them. If they countered to bias that feminism has caused a lot of the stress between the genders would go away. Men might quit looking for brides over seas. Divorce rates would go down as well I think as fewer women would feel less entitlement to have a fairy tale life. There is much they can do for equality and gender relations but most of it comes from fixing the damage the movement has caused to families and the biases against men.

Equality has been achieved in the west. Issues like the wage-gap have been proven beyond doubt to be linked with the diversity of choices rather than to Gender. There isn't an area in real life where women are disadvantaged because of their gender. Therefore, the conclusion that Feminism is redundant in the West, makes their presence threatened. There are some Feminists who actually take time out to help the disadvantaged in third-world countries, but they are few and far between.

This feminist in the west spends her time and energy raising a family. Sounds very traditional, doesn't it? Everything else takes a back-burner..

Yep, what Bob J said, I'm accepting I have equality and getting on with my life. But admittedly wasting time, but so is everyone on this site.

I'm a director of a womens center that helps abuse victims get their lives back to gether. We spend 0 time bashing men or skewing statistics. We set them up with education, parenting skills, financial literacy, councelling (yes we address self esteem issues if needed) and jobs. Usually the services are used by women with children so we make sure kids can grow up without witnessing violence and abuse, without having to live in poverty.

I spend part of my day running an agency that provides support to children/adults with Autism. I spend the other part being a good parent to my awesome daughter and a good wife to my fabulous husband. I think these are all worthwhile

I waste way too much time here lately. Have been wasting lots of time for about 2 months now, part of dealing with some heavy stuff...I need much distraction with frivolousness. It happens, just a phase, I'll be out of it and back into spending much more of my time productively vs. just pissing it away =o)
