My father is on a mission to lose some 50lbs after getting out of the hospital. He has type 2 diabetes and just had a heart attack. He also has respiratory issues - trouble breathing, and low oxygen. He is trying Seattle Sutton's but the amount of sugars in their meal plans are double the USDA recommendations, let alone (he is diabetic.) Are there any links to meal ideas and recipes - recommended diet plan? Balancing ALL THREE health issues simultaneously is obviously very difficult.

Your father should be eating LOTS of veggies and fruits, make sure they are FRESH and not canned or processed. Here is a link to the American Diabetes website, you can find out lots of information there and get good recipes there. http://www.diabetes.org/nutrition-and-recipes/nutrition/overview.jsp

It can be difficult, but using the Atkins idea ( high protein, very little carbohydrate) with a low fat attitude can be a great solution. For example: even though bacon and sausage would be allowed on the Atkins diet they would not be allowed on a low fat diet. So basically a person eats low fat protein i.e chicken, turkey and fish ( some others) with high vegetable sides. Very little to no fruit because of the high carbs and no starchy veggies like potatoes. A typical meal could be baked chicken with broccoli ( little butter) and cole slaw ( lite dressing). Read up on it. Add Vitamin E to increase oxygen utilization
