apples, straight up.
2 :
I think omega-3 will help.Example:tuna fish.
3 :
Eat white meats, fruits, vegetables. Do a moderate amount of exercise. You need to avoid the following. 1. Cigs 2. Red meats & animal fats 3. Eggs
4 :
In order to prevent, stop coronary artery disease from progressing OR even reverse it, adopt a very low fat, high fiber plant based diet with total calories from fat amounting to no more than 10% total (roughly 20 grams per day/no more than 2 grams per serving). Remaining nutrients come from complex carbohydrates (beans, whole grains, bulgur wheat, sprouted buckwheat, oats, kashi, vegetables, fruits, whole grain pastas, lentils, peas, spinach, grits, polenta, etc) that are naturally high in fiber and low in fat (70% of total calories) and the protein (20% of total calories). The non-fat and very low fat dairy products would include egg whites, egg replacer, tofu, seitan, etc. Foods that should be avoided (not eaten at all) include: no meats of any kind including chicken and fish; oils/oil containing products; avocados, olives, nuts and seeds; high or low-fat dairy products like whole milk, yogurt, cheese, cream, egg yolks, etc.; sugar, simple syrup, high fructose corn syrup, honey, maple syrup, molasses; white rice, white flour and the like; alcohol; any commercially available product with more than 2 grams of fat per serving. Stress reduction and moderate daily exercise (walking) are also helpful in preventing/reducing coronary artery disease. The exercise doesn't need to be punishing or painful -- sustained moderate exertion on a regular basis is more important than a "no pain, no gain" philosophy.

6 :
Eat a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet, which includes cottage cheese, fat-free milk, fish, vegetables, poultry, and egg whites. Use monounsaturated oils such as olive, peanut, and canola oils or polyunsaturated oils such as corn, safflower, soy, sunflower, cottonseed, and soybean oils. Avoid foods with excess fat in them such as meat (especially liver and fatty meat), egg yolks, whole milk, cream, butter, shortening, pastries, cakes, cookies, gravy, peanut butter, chocolate, olives, potato chips, coconut, cheese (other than cottage cheese), coconut oil, palm oil, and fried foods. You can not prevent coronary artery disease without controlling hypertension and diabetes. You should also stop smoking.
7 :
Fruits and Vegetables avoid Read Meat, salt, fatty foods, and junk food
8 :
eliminating meat from your diet will be the best. Not only will you not have to deal with the meat rotting in your intestines for 3 days until it is fully metabolized, but you will prevent most of the illnesses caused by eating all types of meat such as heart disease. all berries help and most important, exercise. and stay away from junk. maybe have it once a week as a treat.
9 :
Animal fats and products tend to make things worse,as does cigarette smoking. A diet rich in fruit, vegetables, whole grain and omega 3 fish oils is helpful

The body mass index, I, can be used to determine a person's risk for heart disease. An index less than 25.....?
The body mass index, I, can be used to determine a person's risk for heart disease. An index less than 25 indicates a low risk. The body mass index is given by the formula, or model, I = 700W/H2, where W= weight, in pounds, and H = height, in inches. Jerome 78 inches tall. What weights will keep his body mass between 23 and 33 for a set of all weights such that ? < W < ?
Mathematics - 1 Answers

1 :
THE FORMULA SHOULD ACTUALLY BE I = 700W/H^2 With the above correction, we get W = I*H^2/700 Using the above formula, the weights W in pounds that will keep his body mass index between 23 and 33 are 199.9 < W < 286.8

what is the total cost of treating each of the following? COPD, Heart Disease, Stroke and Diabetes

what is the total cost of treating each of the following? COPD, Heart Disease, Stroke and Diabetes?
I'm doing a paper on preventative healthcare. My hunch is, if we invest more in preventative care and wellness promotion, we'll save more money on healthcare in the long run. So, are you saying Dr. Frank that people should die sooner? okay, no one has posted actual numbers. Thanks for the answers though, but you didn't really answer my question. I couldn't find the numbers on the internet, so I will call insurance companies instead, and get, ....uh "quotes". For all who answered, thank you.

Cost of treatment of diseases varies from country to country. Improvement of lifestyle including healthy diet and exercise may prevent most of the above illnesses.
2 :
That was a hunch that Nye Bevan, the founder of the NHS had. He believed that if you got to grips with disease that costs in the Health service would drop as you basically fixed everyone.Unfortunately this is not what happened. The longer we live, the more diseases we get and the costlier if becomes to keep us going. Health promotion should not be ignored, however it has never really been all that successful as you need to change societal attitudes to behaviour and this often takes decades. Preventative medicine holds out more hope, but the public are often sceptical and indeed fearful of doctors attempts to do this.Good recent examples are the decline in MMR uptake and the significant resistance to mothers getting the HPV vaccine for their daughters. The NHS spends £817.5 million annually managing COPD.This would be massively reduced basically if everyone stopped smoking and nobody started. The reduction in the number of smokers has however plateaued, despite ongoing anti smoking campaigns and the establishment of free clinics.Though everyone now knows that smoking is dangerous. Diabetes now consumes up to 5% of the total NHS budget yet nearly 2/3 of Brits and Americans are now either overweight or obese. No body really is unaware that being overweight is unhealthy. The problem is that humans are basically human, and this is why your premise breaks breaks down.
3 :
No, that's not what he is saying at all, although our ageing population does of course put a strain on the NHS. The main problem is peoples attitudes. You are 100% correct in saying that prevention is better than a cure, but many people won't listen. They say things like, "we are all going to die anyway so who cares if I smoke, overeat and drink like a fish?" Problem is, they do care, because when they are ill, they coming knocking on the NHS's door where they are treated for problems that could so easily be avoided. The same mentality issue exists with vaccines which are given to prevent some terrible diseases, however some scientifically illiterate parents will insist on listening to scaremongering stories. The funny thing is, well actually it isn't funny because children suffer, but what amazes me is the way some of these parents cannot see the other side of the story. Who is it putting these anti-vaccine stories on the Internet? It's the alternative medicine crew! They want you to instead waste your money on crap that does not work and has been proven not to work! Check this one out: Some of the sCAM brigade use CHELATION (seriously) in an attempt to cure Autism! Some children have actually DIED from this so called treatment. Autism doesn't kill children does it? These are the types of stories that the sCAM crew would rather you didn't hear and this 'treatment' also costs a lot of money. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9074208 I don't wish to embark on a vaccine rant but my point is, peoples mentality and attitudes towards prophylaxis treatment and lifestyle changes. The main threat to people are themselves. Because of the anti vaccine crew we only have a 70% uptake of the HPV vaccine which is nowhere near acceptable.

where can I find a risk assessment for heart disease on the internet

where can I find a risk assessment for heart disease on the internet?

I think webmd has something like that. You can also look up the American Heart Association's website... I'd be certain they'd offer something.
2 :
Do a Google search for "Framingham risk calculator" - about fifty sites will come up, all allowing you to calculate your "Framingham risk score," an imperfect but still useful way of assessing 10-year risk for coronary artery disease events. You'll need to know your total and HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure, and medical history. It's worth mentioning that being evaluated appropriately by a trained physician adds significantly to that risk assessment, since there are lots of factors that aren't captured by Framingham risk alone.
3 :
Below is two websites with risk assessments for heart disease. http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/guide/heart-disease-risk-factors http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3003499
4 :
www.webmd.com or do a wide search www. assessment for heart disease and you will find multiple sites with different ways to reach an assessment Questions you should be prepared to answer are your age height weight family history and lab results pertaining to total cholesterol with HLD and your LDL and triglycerides a nd a few questions regarding your life style such as exercise etc.
5 :
Just do a search on "heart disease risk assessment". It will give a list of things that will fit you or not: Age, family history, smoking history, overweight, regular exercise, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, healthy diet, adequate fresh foods in the diet, stress, etc. They use those to establish a probability that you are likely to get it, and when. Some of us get it despite the statistics

they have what?

Sorry about your husband, but what's the rest of your question?
3 :
Hi ss, I am sorry to hear about your husband ill health. Yes, your husband is suffering from angina pain as the doctors have said he dont have much time. Doctors are human beings. They cannot conclusively tell you how much time your husband has. So make the best of it. Spend quality time with him and the rest of the family. Continue to seek the best treatments as long as he is alive. Also follow all the dietary and other constraints placed upon him - this will prolong his life. He may even proof the doctors wrong. He is alive, he does not have to play dead. Good luck, may god be on your side

1) Be sure to let both the orthodontist & cardiologist know 2) They MAY want you to take antibiotics before/after the extraction

I take aspirin for heart disease, causing red blotches on both arms. Any solid evidence to decrease blotches?
I just can't stop taking Aspirin..Dr. Orders. I was on Plavix which made blotches even worse. I need to reduce red blotches that last for weeks whiles others take their place. A never ending situation.

Try taking benadryl. The red blotches could be a reaction to meds. The benadryl works on the histamine which is part of the allergic response causing the splotches. Use the lowest dosage first though because benadryl has a tendency to cause drowsiness.
2 :
You should consult your doctor and a dermatologist before trying to make ANY adjustment to your drug regiment
