Definitely it is prevention that is the best treatment for heart disease. It is prevention, it is avoidance. Basically, you need not to have heart disease you just have to be careful with your lifestyle, with what you eat. You need to avoid smoking, stress and high fat, high cholesterol diet.

Prevention is good, awareness is better. A person can have a perfect lifestyle and still die at the age of 18 from a condition that he or she didn't know they had. Heart disease is the number 1 killer of people partly because people think it is an old person's disease. These disease develop over years, not months. A person with a heart disease will live longer if they find out about it when they are young.

What Are the Treatments? Conventional medical care is essential once heart disease begins to produce noticeable symptoms. Its aim is to stabilize the condition immediately, to control symptoms over the long term and to provide a cure when possible. Stress reduction and lifestyle changes are important components for managing heart disease. Though appropriate changes to diet and lifestyle are always recommended, the mainstays of conventional care are drugs and surgery. http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/understanding-heart-disease-treatment

Well there are many different types of heart disease and the treatment varies depending on the cause. The most common type of heart disease is coronary artery disease, which is basically blockages in the arteries that supply the heart and can lead to heart attacks. The treatment includes Aspirin, Clopidogrel, beta blockers (all end in "olol"), ace inhibitors (all end in "pril)/ angiotensin receptor blockers (all end in "sartan") and cholesterol lowering medications like the statins. All of these agents are associated with a reduced risk of future heart attack and overall mortality. The appropriate medical regimen will vary from patient to patient though

bicuspid heart valve disease

bicuspid heart valve disease?
I am a 22 year old female avg height and weight. Last summer I was diagnosed with bicuspid heart valve disease. For about year (for the exception of once) I have been fine. However, this summer and more so within the last month or so, I have been getting sudden heart palpitations, extreme feelings of dizziness, weakness, shakiness, fatigue, and an extreme in-ability to concentrate or coordinate myself. I dont know if these things are caused by anxiety (something I have had before), or the heart disease. Since I just graduated college my health insurance has run out. I am scared that soemthing will happen while I am waiting to be approved for my own health insurance. What is this that happening to me?

the blood is "back flowing" in your heart. I believe you are dizzy and fatigued due to lack of oxygen. PLEASE, insurance or no.....get to a free clinic or non profit hospital. this isn't something to mess with. don't want to scare you, but this isn't something to put off. there may be some medication they can help you with, to get you to the insurance "kick in". been there, done that. take care

Barring any other things that would increase the risk for bleeding, yes.

No, it is not safe. She is put at risk of bleeding especially in the stomach, brain. If she has a fall, she may bleed profusely. HOWEVER, we have to weigh the benefits and risks, if benefits > risks, it is still justifiable to take plavix. It is an informed decision of the patient, relatives, and doctors as a team. God bless.

The first question to ask is: Is there an indication for clopidogrel? (what is the reason the medication is prescribed). If the 82 yo lady has coronary disease and had a drug eluting stent placed within the last 12-24 months, there is a indication to continue clopidogrel. Following bare metal stent or other vascular stent there is an indication for 4-6 weeks of clopidogel. Beyond those indications and beyond 24 months post stent, research data doesn't give strong support that clopidogrel is beneficial. If an indication exists to use the medication, THEN one should weigh the risk/benefit of use
