The risk is higher depending on how heavily one smokes. Passive smokers are no exception, but less likely to experience heart attack via tobacco. Smoking causes arteries/veins to constrict (tighten). If the person has too much cholesterol in his or her system, then the constriction caused by the nicotine can cause the blood vessels to stick together---inducing a heart attack. Also, the ingredients in nicotine are considered "uppers." They cause the heart to beat faster and work harder than necessary. Finally, the contamination smoking causes to the lungs makes the heart work more than it normally needs to. The smoke kills the oxygen capacity of RBC's (red blood cells). All of this undue stress can cause a heart attack over time.

smoking can damage all kinds of things.
3 :
Yes, smoking can lead to hardening of the arteries. This causes heart disease. Passive smoking has the same effect.

Maybe I should tell you since I've recently been diagnosed with Congestive Heart failure (also a cardio vascular disease) and Pulmonary Hypertension.... BOTH of which were caused in part by my 35 YEARS of SMOKING.... I almost died from it this past November and am still TERMINALLY ill with both diseases which will only get progressively worse with time... There is NOTHING more devastating then to have 2 different doctors tell you that you have from 2 months to a couple years left to live......Passive smoking is still smoking and even people who are stuck inhaling second hand smoke can ALSO acquire lung AND heart diseases from the smoke... I quite 7 months ago but alas it is too late---I'm only HOPING that by quitting I have added maybe a few extra MONTHS to my life... had I known way back when what I would be like NOW, I would have NEVER picked up my first cigarette, but I'm glad I picked up my LAST... if you are a smoker QUIT NOW...there are only a HANDFUL of people who continue to smoke and live a LONG, fruitful life---don't bet with your life--you could lose like me and countless others!!!!

your heart is right between your lungs. when low-oxygen blood come into the heart, it is pumped through the right side of the heart to the lungs, and then back through the left side of the heart to be pumped back to the body. it's all closely intertwined.
6 :
damages the lungs which pump oxygen to the rest of body via the veins which restricts flow to the heart

I believe heart disease is basically "chronic scurvey". What do you think?
I believe that a lack of vitamin C causes small ruptures in the lining of the artery wall and plaque builds up there to prevent you from bleeding to death internally. You end up with problems when too much plaque builds up. Does anyone also believe this theory?

Alot of things can cause heart disease. Alot of it is genetic, lifestyle, people who are not Vit C defficient can and do still have heart attacks. In my case, my heart attacks were caused due to a valve disease. One of my friends died from a heart attack caused because of heart disease brought on by cancer treatment. Heart problems cant be that simply categorized.

That doesn't hold up very well if you look at the diets of most people in the United States. Most of us get more than enough vitamin C. We have lots of foods that are fortified with it. Many of us take a multivitamin or other supplement that contains vitamin C. Yet heart disease is very, very common in this country despite the fact that vitamin C deficiency is very uncommon. While vitamin C deficiency can weaken blood vessels, it would be very rare in this country to have a case of cardiovascular disease caused by vitamin C deficiency

In my humble opinion, it probably is not considered a heart disease. Palpitation is THE EFFECT when something is wrong with the heart. So you could say that you have a "heart disease" and one of the effect is palpitation. (ie palpitation itself is not THE DISEASE) Palpitation means you have a heart problem and YES - you need to be treated for it. Please see your doctor!
2 :
No palpitations alone are not a heart disease. Most people will have them at some point in their life for various reasons. Palpitations can be begnin or life threatning, depending on what the cause is and what kind it is. If it's a regular occurance it's best to get checked, and if you feel dizzy, faint, light headed, or 'funny' at any point it's a good idea to go to the .E.R just to be safe.
