Does anyone know what diabetes medication has been recently linked to heart disease

Does anyone know what diabetes medication has been recently linked to heart disease?
Is there any link between the heart disease and glucophage?

they think avandia can cause heart disease. but they are not positive yet
2 :
Avandia. It's also in Avandryl (a combination of Avandia and Amaryl) and Avandamet (a combination of Avandia and metformin.
3 :
avandia for type 2 diabetes...it has been links to an increased risk of heart attack and heart related deaths. the FDA has issued a "safety alert" but NOT a recall.. talk to your doctor if you are taking this medication especially if you already have heart problems.
4 :
Avandia and possibly Avandiamet I would not recommend Glucophage to give my dog ..That drug has caused people to loose their limbs , I am a diabetic on insulin!! Glad to be , them pills are no good!
5 :
Troglitazone (Rezulin) associated with liver failure and heart disease. Avandia is associated with myocardical infarction and sudden death. Glucophage is okay, so far. Nothing's conclusive at this time. Personally, I agree with the PharmD.
6 :
Avandia is the main one. Avandamet is another name for Avandia. they are also looking into Actos to see if there is a link because it works in a similar way to Avandia (but there is no evidence YET that Actos causes any heart problems at this time).
7 :
Avandia (rosiglitazone). However- it is a drug that treats type 2 diabetes, which is generally caused by being overweight, sedentary and commonly part of a condition called metabolic syndrome (hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, obesity). So what are the risk factors for heart disease? Overweight, high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), hypertension, diabetes. SO- are we going to blame the drug for the disorder, or are we going to blame the fact that people would rather take a drug to control a condition than drop 50 pounds by eating right, exercising daily and living a more healthy lifestyle? Type 2 diabetes can be reversed- up to a point. Once the beta cells die off, there is no reversal. The type of study quoted backing this statistic is a meta-analysis: not as strong a study as a random controlled clinical trial. The evidence is not entirely conclusive.
8 :
I think it was Avandamet (has two drugs in it...rosiglitazone maleate and metformin HCl ).
9 :
I am not really sure of this but a few of my friends were tired of taking harmful medication so they started to try suppliments. Believe it or not they found one that worked better then anything the doctor prescribed. You can get a free trial of it here http://www.optimumdiabetics.com/?aid=325796

When Will Cardiologists DROP The Cholesterol NONSENSE And Get To The REAL Causes Of Coronary Heart Disease

When Will Cardiologists DROP The Cholesterol NONSENSE And Get To The REAL Causes Of Coronary Heart Disease?
When?
Heart Diseases - 12 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
the "real" cause is a very big business- and when research studies are funded by "big business" doctors are told what to think.
2 :
When statin making drug companies stop paying them.
3 :
they don't want to scare people with the real reasons like blocked arteries and heredateries;and all of the main causes.they always say cholesterol because they run out of things to say'so they throw that in there...by now with all the technology' you'd think they would almost come up with some kinds of pills or shots to make it where so many don't have to die daily 'weekly and all other times,,,,,LOL
4 :
And the real causes ARE?? We're waiting.....
5 :
They would never , because the real culprit is badly imbalanced cholesterol only. The devil does not run away if you just shut your eyes !
6 :
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7 :
ANTHONY COLPO IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. In the AFCAPS/TexCAPS trial, lovastatin reduced CHD mortality by a staistically insignificant twenty-seven percent. BUT overall mortality was increased by four percent. 3304 were in the drug group and 3301 in the treatment group. 11 CHD deaths drug group 15 CHD deaths control group. realtive Risk for CHD Mortality -27% Realtive risk for total mortality +3.9% total deaths 80 drug group 77 control group STATINS DO NOT INCREASE SURVIVAL RATE IN WOMEN AT ALL STATINS DO NOT INCREASE SURVIVAL RATE IN ELDERLY AT ALL STATINS DO NOT INCREASE SURVIVAL RATE IN MEN FREE OF EXISTING CORONARY HEART DISEASE. ANY ACTION STATINS HAVE IN SELECT PATIENTS WITH CORONARY HERAT DISEASE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THEIR LDL REDUCTION. AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THEIR INFLAMATION REDUCTION, ANTI CLOTTING ,ANTI SPASM PROPERTIES. PERHAPS YOU did not read this carefully enough. http://www.lowcarbmuscle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=162 RESEARCHERS ADSMITTED AFTER EXAMINING ALL THE EVIDENCE THAT LDL REDUCTION IS UNFOUNDED. YOU WOULD GET DESTROYED BY COLPO IN ANY TYPE OF CONVERSATION ABOUT THE FACTS ON CHOLESTEROL.
8 :
If cholesterol isn't the "real" cause, what is? Cholesterol is a big part of what causes Coronary Artery Disease. No, it isn't all of it. Some other causes are cigarettes, diabetes, high blood pressure and genetics. Which one should we focus on?
9 :
The ABSURDITY OF the Cholesterol Theory Using data from Cholesterol Theory proponents we would have to believe: *Cholesterol causes coronary heart disease in men BUT NOT WOMEN *Cholesterol causes coronary herat disease in Americans BUT NOT Canadiand and PROTECTS aginst coronary heart disease in RUSSIANS *Cholesterol causes coronary heart disease if you are between the ages 31 and 47 BUT STOPS CAUSING CORONARY HEART DISEASE ONCE YOU TURN 48 AS FAR AS THE STATIN CLINICAL TRIALS the ones that COUNT CLINICAL NOT observational, READ THIS FROM THE BRILLIANT DR. UFFE RAVNSKOV, Anthony Colpo's MENTOR Summing up "In their reports, the directors of these trials cited LDL cholesterol as an important risk factor in coronary heart disease. But what these trials actually provide , in spite of the glowing reports they received in the press, is strong evidence that cholesterol levels do not matter. First, the statins were almost as effective for women as they were for men. Indeed, in the the CARE trial the effect was most pronounceds for the female sex although almost all studies have shown that high cholesterol is not a risk factor for women. Second, the elderly were protected just as much as younger individuals. although all studies have shown that high cholesterol is only a weak risk factor , if any at all. for men older than fifty. Third, the number of strokes was reduced after statin treatment , although all studies have shown that high cholesterol is a weak risk factor for stroke if at all. Fourth, patients who has suffered a heart attack were protected even though most studies have shown that high cholesterol is a weak risk factor , if any at all , for those who have already had a heart attack." As far as the Furthermore, THE STATINS PROTECTED AGAINST CORONARY HEART DISEASE WHETHER THE PATIENTS CHOLESTEROL WAS HIGH OR LOW, even though most studies have shown that normal or low cholesterol is not a risk factor for coronary disease. MOST IMPORTANT- THERE WAS NO ASSOCIATION BETWEEN THE DEGREE OF CHOLESTEROL LOWERING AND THE OUTCOME. THE RISK OF HAVING A HEART ATTACK WAS REDUCED BY THE SAME DEGREE WHETHER THE CHOLESTEROL LEVEL WAS LOWERED BY A LARGE AMOUNT OR SMALL AMOUNT. As far as the AFCAPS/TexCAPS trial, which included healthy individuals with normal cholesterol levels, the chance of NOT dying from a heart attack over four to six years for a patient with CHD and high cholesterol is about 92 percent without treatment, and increases to 95 percent with statin treatment. HARDLY IMPRESSIVE. DRUG COMPANIES AND DOCTORS ALWAYS LOOK AT AND CITE "RELATIVE RISK REDUCTION" . DRUG COMPANIES USE "RELATIVE RISK REDUCTION" FOR THEIR ADS Take a look at ABSOLUTE RISK REDUCTION AND YOU WILL FIND that death from a heart attack was prevented in only a SMALL PERCENTAGE OF TREATED INDIVIDUALS. These figures are highest in the trials that included patients WITH CHD whereas it was aTRIVIAL 0.12 percent in the AFCAPS/TexCAPS trial. *STATINS DO NOT HELP THE ELDERLY OR WOMEN AT ALL.-even when they have coronary heart disease. *STATINS ONLY HELP MIDDLE AGED MEN WITH EXISTING CORONARY HEART DISEASE AND DIABETICS. *ANY BENEFICIAL EFFECTS SEEN IN THIS SMALL PERCENTAGE OF SELECT INDIVIDUALS IS INDEPENDENT OF LDL LOWERING. THE RESERACHERS CAME OUT AND ADMITTED THIS IN OCT 2006 http://www.lowcarbmuscle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=162 YOU HAVE BEEN DISMANTLED FOOL.
10 :
You STUPID STUPID nurse Atherosclerotic plaques are NOT wads of cholesterol FOOL They are VERY VERY HARD FIBEROUS SCAR TISSUE MAINLY 90 PERCENT. Cholesterol ONLY makes up 6-10% FOOL ATHEROSCLEROTIC PLAQUES ARE MAINLY FIBEROUS SCAR TISSUE SMOOTH MUSCLE CELLS RESEMBLES A SCAB SEE HERE FIRST HAND FOOL http://www.youtube.com type in KIRKSEY The media's AND DRUG COMPANIES representation of human atherosclerosis is COMPLETELY ERRONEOUS. BILLIONS ARE MADE OFF OF THIS SCAM. It's UNBELIEVEABLE HOW STUPID the medical personnel is as evidence the nurse above. SCARY THOUGHT TO HAVE THESE PEOPLE TREATING US. ANTHONY COLPO'S KNOWLEDGE IS AN EMBARRASSMENT TO YOU
11 :
To answer your question, hopefully never. It's amazing how a few people (or maybe just one with different id's) think that 90% of the worlds' doctors are wrong. When someone argues against the "anti-cholesterol" lobby, they're met with curses and insults. (which gets you violated) If you truly want to change peoples' minds, that doesn't work. Reasoned discussions do much more than calling people stupid or putrid #$#~.

caileywailey - I think that is a fantastic idea! If you are not already a member, I would suggest that you also look at being a part of the Adult Congenital Heart Association (achaheart.org). Their website includes a message board where I'm sure you'd be able to find some more adolescents in the Houston area who might be interested in being a part of your group! Good luck to you!

2 :
Rheumatic heart disease will not go away. It occured because you had strep throat that was not treated with antibiotics. This can cause rheumatic fever a few weeks later that can damage the heart and or kidneys. Try seeking the help of a nutritionist to design the best diet for your condition. Also talk to your doctor about the implications of the damage that was caused so you can see if anything can be treated. Good luck.
3 :
Take aurvedic capsule Rudved. It will increase the blood flow of your body and you will be free from your complaints.
4 :
Rheumatic Heart Disease is treatable but not curable. You should go on a low fat, low cholesterol, low sodium cardiac diet, get some help to lose wait, do moderate exercise daily and stop smoking if you do.And get regular check-ups. Good health and good luck

Living human stem cells can be made to become any type of cell in the human body, since they all have the same DNA. This might also cure Conservativism, by quadrupling the thinking portion of their brains.

stem cell is where the all other cell came from (originated). so in event that your cell been damaged, died, etc then stem cell is used to replace those cell

Is high cholesterol, and/or high blood pressure, the only things to cause heart disease

Is high cholesterol, and/or high blood pressure, the only things to cause heart disease?

Heart Diseases - 8 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
no
2 :
no it kinda gets passed on. genetics
3 :
Many things can, like genetics, heart murmur, anemia or iron deficiency, bad diet or even cancer.
4 :
High cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease. This is old info. Different things can cause high blood pressure. There are many causes of heart disease. You can google and get a lot of info.on these subjects.
5 :
high cholesterol level causes thickening of arteries atherosclerosis so blood pressure increases it leads to heart disease.
6 :
that may be due to heart attack
7 :
The main cause of heart attack is inflammation .high cholesterol is a symptom not the cause .Omega3 found in fish oil walnuts and flax seed oil are high in... can help prevent inflammation . Omega6 oils and dehydrogenated oil increase the chance for heart disease. As little as 3% of your daily fat is dehydrogenated fats can increase your chance of heart attack by 60%
8 :
No there are other things that lead to heart disease. First of all, there are many types of heart disease. Heart disease can be related to blockages in the arteries that supply the heart (coronary artery disease (CAD)/ischemic heart disease), abnormal heart rhythms, structural abnormalities of the heart (leaky heart valves, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, etc.) and many others. Blockages in the arteries that supply the heart (CAD) leading to heart attacks are the most common type of heart disease. Risk factors for coronary artery disease include advanced age, family history, obesity, diabetes, smoking, high LDL "bad" cholesterol, low HDL "good" cholesterol and high blood pressure. As you can see there are many other causes or risk factors for heart disease. Also the other types of heart conditions are related to different factors
