Your looking at nearly 600,000 a year claim the lives of people and women heart disease is the number one killer in us.
2 :
Heart disease, or cardiovascular disease, accounts for 30 percent of deaths worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Despite dramatic medical advances over the past 50 years, heart disease remains a leading cause of death globally and the Number 1 cause of death in the United States. In the United States, almost 700,000 people die from heart disease each year. An estimated 17 million people die of CVDs, particularly heart attacks and strokes, every year. A substantial number of these deaths can be attributed to tobacco smoking, which increases the risk of dying from coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease 2รข€“3 fold. Physical inactivity and unhealthy diet are other main risk factors which increase individual risks to cardiovascular diseases. One of the strategies to respond to the challenges to population health and well being due to the global epidemic of heart attack and stroke is to provide actionable information for development and implementation of appropriate policies. As part of such efforts, WHO in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has produced for the wider audience, "The Atlas of Heart Disease and Stroke". The atlas addresses the global epidemic of heart disease and stroke in a clear and accessible format. This highly valuable reference material has been designed for use by policy makers, national and international organizations, health professionals and the general public. This picturesque atlas is in six parts: cardiovascular disease; risk factors; the burden; action; the future and the past; and world tables. Take care as always!

I just read a great article in National Geographic (from a few months ago). It has a huge article about heart disease. You can probably find it on their website. Heart disease is 50% heredity and 50% diet. Start good eating and exercise while you're young so you don't have to worry about hardened arteries when you are older. Take fish oil pills too. Yes, teens should care. You can reduce the risk by starting good habits young, eating right, and exercising. This will at least eliminate the 50% diet relation. The other 50% is out of your control, unless you are lucky and have really good genes.

Heart disease is the #1 Killer in the USA - so I am glad that your homework is on an important subject. Check out the website http://www.cadiresearch.com/Heart_%20Attack.html for animation of a heart attack. Basically, people suffering from heart disease have plaque (cholesterol) build-up around their coronary arteries (arteries that supply blood to their heart muscle). Some of this plaque can rupture and block the artery causing a heart attack. A heart attack could lead to death or disability. There are a number of factors that can cause heart disease cholesterol level, family history of heart disease - check out www.americanheart.org for detailed information. The three keys for a heart healthy life - Healthy eating - fruits, vegetables, lean meat - heart healthy fats such as omega-3; regular physical activity and appropriate medication for cholesterol control. As a teenager - especially if you have a family history of heart disease, you need to get medically screened and take precautionary measures. Also, a heart healthy life style makes you feel great and gives you plenty of energy. I hope this was helpful. Good luck with your assignment

You could poke around the National Institutes of Health or CDC websites and maybe find raw data or maybe find a person to contact about obtaining data. You could also search medical journals and see what data sources they used in previous heart studies and obtain the same data. Google Scholar or PubMed are good search engines

Can I Still Pursue The Nursing Course even With Congenital Heart Disease

Can I Still Pursue The Nursing Course even With Congenital Heart Disease?
the title says it all.

Sure. Assuming you can function in "most" routine activities, nursing should not significantly limit you.
2 :
Probably. But your own doctor who knows your heart condition is the person who can best tell you whether or not your heart can withstand the requirements of nursing. If your doctor says you should be fine, then go for it and God bless! We need more nurses!

Is an inverted t wave, heart disease or a heart condition

Is an inverted t wave, heart disease or a heart condition?
inverted t wave was found 25 years ago on ekg, the dr said he was ok. in feb 2007, he had a heart attack and 5 doctors(cardo) have said nothing or are not concerned about the t wave, it is my father. still the question is, is an inverted t wave heart disease or just a heart condition.
Heart Diseases - 4 Answers

1 :
Pathologic T wave or inverted t wave usually is present in people who had myocardial infarction or heart atack.
2 :
Oh! no, one must not forget that Anxiety or tension can also cause T wave inversion. Your doctor is a well experienced, to delete any cardiac pathology at that time. After post myocardial infarction it's a matter of concern. BUT to reach a conclusive diagnosis, the 12 leads have to be taken in consideration. Tell your father all is well that end well and to remain happy and calm, and follow the doctor's advise.
3 :
Inverted T waves are nonspecific and can show up as a normal variant on an ECG. Of course T wave inversion could be taken more seriously in light of a h/o MI. T wave inversion also occurs with hypertension in response to an increased heart rate (anxiety) and in and of itself, is not a sign of heart disease. T wave abnormalities should be correlated with clinical findings. Let his doctors worry about this. His heart will be routinely monitored.
4 :
The T wave is just one of the waves in the ECG (EKG in USA). The others are P, QRS and sometimes, U. The T wave shows the recovery of the ventricles, the larger and thicker chambers of your heart. An inverted T wave can be due to many causes, and cannot be interpreted on its own. It also depends on which leads it is present in. There are 12 leads in the ECG, which, put simply, look at the heart from various directions. BEST THING: Take the advice of the cardiologists. They have trained and worked for at least 10-20 years in this specialty before they reach where they are. They should know what they are talking about. All the best to you and your Dad

Get a stopwatch or a watch that lets you do laps. Timex has one. For one day, time how often you masturbate and the times you do it. Keep a journal. Then, the next day, try to stretch out the time. Like, if you do it once an hour, try and wait an hour and ten minutes. Each day, wait longer. Every three days or so, try to masturbate one less time. Try and replace your behavior with something else, like walking or writing in your journal. Also, try and figure out what triggers the need to masturbate. Are you anxious? Sad? Angry? Just a teenager? Also, ask your doctor if masturbation is making your problem worse: it may not be.
2 :
I seriously doubt that masturbation would cause any sort of heart problem

Is it safe and beneficial for women 30 yrs and younger to take fish oil supplements to prevent heart disease

Is it safe and beneficial for women 30 yrs and younger to take fish oil supplements to prevent heart disease?
Which is better? flaxseed or fish oil supplements?
Heart Diseases - 8 Answers

1 :
Absolutely, it's good to get omega-3 from fish oil/flax seed. I personally prefer flaxseed supplements because you don't get the fishy aftertaste.
2 :
Very beneficial. Not only helps with heart disease but with depression. Unless you can afford the really expensive fish oil, I would use flaxseed oil instead. I've used both. Both work great.
3 :
Research does show a beneficial effect of fish oils (omega three fatty acids) though I do not know if there has also been shown an effect of taking supplements. What I mean is that often in medicine, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. I wouldn't worry so much as taking supplements as making sure to include oils and fish in your diet. I do know that there are concerns that too many PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids) can actually become oxidized and lead to potentially too many free radicals in the blood system. Free radicals are very reactive substances and are implicated in everything from heart disease to cancer.
4 :
Check with your Doctor on this. It's all a matter of balance. Eskimos have extremely low rates of heart disease but extremely high rates of hemmorahgic stroke. Their fish oil consumption is high. One concern with fish oil is the source of it. If it comes from fish which are in contaminated waters, the mercury levels can be high. Flaxseed on the other hand should not have contamination problems particularly if it is organic. Certainly Omega 3 fatty acids are essential to your diet . This is the main reason people focus on flax seed and fish oil. I use flax seed oil because you don't get the characteristic fish oil burp and aftertaste. Check with your Doctor and/or Pharmacist.
5 :
It certainly is. Flaxseed contains short chain Omega 3 fatty acids whereas fish oils contain the long chain variety. The long chain Omega 3's can be converted by the body to the short chain when required. Your best bet is to take a spoonful of cod liver oil every day. If you find it to be unpalatable, then take the halibut liver oil capsules. With the capsules you're taking less in terms of volume, but the strength should be about the same because you're getting more bang for the buck with the caps. To explain further, the halibut is usually a larger and older fish than the cod, and its liver oil is therefore much stronger. And, let's not forget the natural vitamin D3 which is found in this oil. To prevent the onset of some chronic diseases, it is most important that we persevere to ensure that we maintain an adequate daily intake of this vitamin. This is especially so if we're not residing in the sunbelt and not taking advantage of the sun's rays.
6 :
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE THAT IT HELP. AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION DO NOT ADVISE THE USE OF SUCH SUPPLEMENTS EVEN IN PATIENTS WITH HEART ATTACKS
7 :
You need to discuss this with your own physician. As a cardiologist, I commonly calculate my patient's ten year risk of a heart attack and talk with the patient about modifying that risk. Your own doctor can do this as well. You might be better off simply replacing some of the red meat in your diet with cold water fish.
8 :
I take both as supplements to a diet high in fruits, vegetables and whole grains and very little meat. Try to eat some salmon sometimes, too. It's filled with beneficial omega threes.A good, healthy diet is the best way to prevent heart disease. You can splurge sometimes and have a desert if you do eat healthfully
