I think it's supposed to suck up excess fats(which then are excreted..), which then can't go clogging your arteries. Not very scientific, sorry!
2 :
The most common cause of coronary heart disease (CHD) is the clogging of arteries, called atherosclerosis. The stuff that builds up on the inside of arteries is a fatty deposit, mostly made of cholesterol. Now, cholesterol is naturally made by the liver, and plays an important role in our health and wellbeing. It is when there is too much cholesterol in our system that problems start to occur. The digestion of fiber literally pulls the cholesterol out of the blood stream and into the digestive tract to help. That's it in a nutshell, but if you want more detailed info, here it is: http://health.howstuffworks.com/diseases-conditions/cardiovascular/cholesterol/foods-that-lower-cholesterol2.htm

What does the fact that triglycerides are nonpolar have to do with heart disease

What does the fact that triglycerides are nonpolar have to do with heart disease?

i have no idea
3 :
Nonpolar triglycerides (fat) don't dissolve in water and can build up in the coronary arteries (the arteries around the heart that give the heart itself blood). The buildup is dangerous and can lead to heart disease.
4 :
Cholesterol and triglycerides, being NONPOLAR lipid substances (insoluble in water), need to be transported in the plasma associated with various lipoprotein particles. Plasma lipoproteins are separated by hydrated density; electrophretic mobility; size; and their relative content of cholesterol, triglycerides, and protein into five major classes: chylomicrons, very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), intermediate-density lipoproteins (IDL), low-density lipoproteins (LDL), and high-density lipoproteins (HDL). Since the levels of plasma lipids have a bell-shaped distribution in the general population, the definition of either a high or a low value of these substances has remained an arbitrary statistical decision. High values have been traditionally considered as those in the 90th and 95th percentiles; low values were considered to be those below the 5th percentile. The NIH Concensus Conference has recently revised the values concerning cholesterol, however, in view of clear evidence of an increased risk of coronary atherosclerosis in persons falling in the 75th to 90th percentiles. According to this last statement, cholesterol levels below 200 mg/dl are classified as "desirable blood cholesterol," those 200 to 239 mg/dl as "borderline-high blood cholesterol," and those 240 mg/dl and above as "high blood cholesterol

Hi, It's tough to know that your son has two conditions, that he will have for the rest of his life. But look, your son is among the lucky ones who have the right diagnosis, among those babies born everyday with no definite diagnosis of their disease... Talk to the doctor, he must have explained already these two conditions, g6pd babies, as you know, can live normally as long as they avoid food/medications that trigger the symptoms, and that some congenital heart disease patients have mild structural defects (asd, vsd, etc) and are asymptomatic. They can live long lives as long as they take care of their health. It's normal to worry, its human nature, because i know you love him and want the best for him. You'll do great! Nevertheless, remember that you have a growing baby boy, and no matter what conditions he may have, you do have one of life's greatest blessings. :)

I really don't think there is a way to ease your worries. My son has Congenital heart disease. He had to have open heart surgery when he was 11 days old. We spent 5 months in the hospital 4 of that in the ICU. He unfortunately went into cardiac arrest after his surgery and was placed onto life support. I was told to say goodbye to him twice. Everyday I worry that he won't wake up. The doctors have assured me that they are not concerned about his heart right now. But, that only gives a small amount of reassurance to a mother of a sick child. All I can say is it will start to get a little easier. My son is 9 months old now. I have had him home for 4 months. At first I couldn't even sleep in my bedroom. I slept with him in his swing and me right next to the swing on the couch. I would get up every hour or so just to see if he was pink and breathing. Slowly I moved his crib into my room and started sleeping in my own bed. The worry has slowly gone down. I still worry when he is down for a nap that I am going to walk into the room and find him blue and not breathing. I am not sure if that will ever go away. I hope so. I think for me it's going to take a long time

Obesity, High Blood Pressure, and Stress create the “perfect storm” for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and st?
Obesity, High Blood Pressure, and Stress create the “perfect storm” for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. How would our health system change if Americans took personal responsibility for their own health?

They already do. Some believe that the key to this situation is to focus on the younger generation and involve them in prevention and healthy living early on and establish a good foundation for their future health. Some studies have shown that taking care of yourself during the early years and making good food choices and maintaining a healthy weight has more impact on a person's health than anything they may do after they reach adulthood.

Eating salty, fatty foods. The heart is a muscle. Muscles like protein, they like to be cleansed with water. They like fresh air to replenish themselves. Some chemicals do not go with the heart. Nature has tags on those. If you see a person falling over and dying, because they ate a plant or they got it into their body somehow, think that that natural plant is a BIG NO-NO for human beings, because the chemical components do not go along with human beings, they go along with something else. It's like piecing together a puzzle. You have to find what is right for you. Think of the body as night and day. Some natural things on earth are all night. Some natural things are all day. Some things on earth are night and day. The body can handle some night and day things. The body can handle some only day things, and some only night things, but you have to be careful about putting your body out of whack. Nature supplies people and animals with food and water and the sun. Too much of anything can hurt you, too little of anything can hurt you. You want to be right in the middle, just like noon is in the middle. You are only human, you are not all night and you are not all day. You are the middle.
2 :
Factor one is the diet. It is rich in fatty foods, lots of animal fats. This will lead to obesity and heart disease. Also, higher alcohol consumption will lead to heart disease. Cigarette smoking will have impact on heart as well

Does an echocardiogram show all types of heart disease or arrythimias

Does an echocardiogram show all types of heart disease or arrythimias?

1 :
It measures your heart's rhythm, and shows any irregularities. Heart disease is a broad spectrum of things that can be wrong, from heart murmurs, to plaque buildup within the heart, to congenital anomalies etc. It doesnt show exactly what is wrong, the doctor has to interpret the reading with your other labs, and history.
2 :
I don't know but I have read a story about long Q-T syndrome where the doctor didn't bother to measure the distance between Q and T and therefore didn't diagnose it. Also sometimes heart symptoms don't show up because they are occasional.
3 :
It's a good test but only one test. Doctors should have specific testing recommendations for specific situations. And there is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion!
4 :
An echo can show the size and some of the functioning of the heart. It can show enlargement of chambers, it can show how the valves are working.. It doesn't show much in the way of the blood flow to the heart muscle.
5 :
No to both. An Echo can measure the flow of blood through the cambers of the heart, and out from the heart. If this flow of blood is abnormally slow or irregular, it MIGHT indicate somekind of problem which would need further tests to determine specifics. By itself it cannot give specifics; its value lies in being a first line NON-invasive test.
6 :
Not all but most.
7 :
Heart problems can arise from several different causes namely: heart muscle problems, valve problems, plumbing problems (like artery blockages) or wiring problems (like arrhythmias). An echo may be quite helpful in diagnosing first two heart ailments while not being of much help in diagnosing others. More on echocardiogram here http://drchander.com/echo.html
8 :
ECG will show any eletrical damage and an ECHO will show any physical damage. You will see an old heart attack or one happinging now with the Ecg. and also the rhythm and irregular beats called ectopy. You will see Valve problems and defects with the Echo. Jerry
9 :
No , echocardiogram has its limitation in investigation of heart disease
10 :
Yes, I know someone who had test recently and it usually shows up any abnormal rhythms etc.
