"According to the American Heart Association, all cardiovascular diseases together are projected to cost $475.3 billion in 2009, including health care services, medications, and lost productivity." http://www.cdc.gov/HeartDisease/faqs.htm I know the pharmaceutical companies and people who work in health care benefit from more people being sick but are their benefits greater than the losses, lost productivity, sick leave payments and etc.

I think you are becoming aware that what we call treating heart disease, is just making the medical professions rich, while us patients get sicker and sicker. One drug leads to 10 drugs. It happened to me. As a pharmacist, I should have known better. All the medical education is bought and paid for by the drug companies. Pharmacist who's life was almost ruined by Lipitor

No, it can happen to anyone. My son has congenital heart disease. During our 4 month stay in the ICU of a children's hospital there was many different ethnic backgrounds. There was about 2 open heart surgeries a week to all races

As with most medical conditions, your doctor will obtain most of the information required for diagnosis based on the information and description of symptoms he or she gets from you during the interview. Physical examination and lab investigations help to confirm or rule out the different possible diagnoses. Listening to the heart through the stethoscope can reveal obvious abnormalities such as murmurs and irregular rhythms. There are other physical findings like extremity swelling, abnormal blood pressure, and fluid in the lungs which can help to diagnose heart problems. Subsequent tests such as an electrocardiogram (sticky electrodes on your chest, wrists and ankles to check the electrical activity of the heart for a few seconds), echocardiogram (ultrasound scan of the heart), and exercise stress testing (the treadmill test) can also be performed to confirm or rule out serious heart disorders.
